Local Workshops and Upcoming Scribal classes

Greetings!

I hope that everyone will take a moment, if you know of a local workshop or other scribal activity, to let Ysabella (Schola deputy) or myself know about it so we can post information here.   While I'm sure everyone spreads the word locally, there are sometimes scribes (especially new scribes) who may be willing or able to travel further to meet other scribes and learn more.   I also encourage you to post even about your local gatherings on the ekscribes Yahoo group for the same reason.   We have such a wealth of knowledge to share with each other!  For the listings below, please feel free to let us know of other happenings - I hope to update this frequently with information a couple months out at a time.

- Eleanor, New Scribes

Upcoming events with classes:

Edward & Marguerite: Scroll Delivery

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Last Updated on Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:43 Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:34

For the reign of Edward & Marguerite, scrolls that cannot be hand delivered to the event should be mailed to Her Majesty at:

Kathy Journeay
60 Village Court
Berlin, MA 01503

Make sure to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before you mail the scroll, just in case she would like you to send it to a different address due to weather or other issues.

Plan for scrolls to arrive no later than the Thursday before the event. If they leave for the event on Friday, they will miss Friday's mail.

Make sure to indicate which event the scroll is for, either on the envelope or cut sheet with the scroll text.

----

And some reminders about general scroll delivery procedures:

Be sure to always include a typed cut sheet with the scroll text for the herald to read, preferably in large print.

Consider putting some form of contact information on the back of the scroll in case the recipient wants to get in touch with you. I've had quite a few requests for email addresses from people who wanted to thank their scribe.

Deliver scrolls to the Royal Room as early in the day as  possible.

If you have an alternative (non-paper) scroll, please try to have it to Their Majesties at least 1 week before the event so they have time to figure out the materials and technique for signing. If that is not possible, at least let me and the royal herald know at least 1 week before the event so preparations can be made.

Remember to provide any special signing materials that are required along with detailed instructions if you won't be there to help.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. And finally, thank you for all the hard work and beautiful scrolls that have been so generously created.

Seeking Mentors for New Scribes

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Thursday, 01 January 2009 00:00

As a result of our recent scribal survey, I've identified several new(ish) scribes who are looking for mentoring.

Some of the areas that these people reside in are as follows:

  • Bergental
  • Carillion
  • Endewearde
  • Mountain Freehold
  • Ostgardr
  • Panther Vale
  • Ravenhill (in Barony Beyond the Mountain)
  • Stonemarche
  • Bhakail (added Feb. 2010)
  • Settmour Swamp (added Feb. 2010)

If you believe you are near enough to help with some active teaching and mentoring, please let me know, and I will get you connected.

Alternately, if I were to put together workshops for new scribes in these areas, and you would be willing to help out, please let me know.

In service,

Happy New Year everyone! I have a few announcements for this new calendar year.

First, Their Majesties have allowed me to continue as Tyger Clerk for another year so please bear with me for a little longer.

Next, as I am sure many of you have already heard, the Crown Principality of Tir Mara (formerly Northern Shores) has the intent of becoming a full principality. This process is underway. At the time the Society Board of Directions is petitioned to grant them full principality status they will need principality officers equivalent to the kingdom officers, including a Signet officer. At this time I would like to ask anyone who is interested in the position of Signet Deputy for Tir Mara to contact me. My goal is to have someone ready to step up as Principality Signet when the time comes. For now, the duties of this position would include learning all the duties of the Tyger Clerk in anticipation of future principality duties, promoting the scribal arts in Tir Mara, and supporting the scribes in Tir Mara.

Lastly, I have a small policy change to announce. When signature space is required for heraldry (Award of Arms, Grant of Arms, Patent of Arms, Augmentation of Arms), and you choose to write titles for the people signing, please use the word "Herald" instead of "Brigantia". Brigantia has decided that the court herald may sign for the office, therefore the appropriate title is simply "Herald" from now on.

If you have any questions please let me know. And, as always, if you feel I am giving you too much work, or you would like more work, just let me know!
